Academic Governance
|
As a higher education institution, The IIE offers full qualifications and short learning programmes in four faculties: Business, Information Technology, Leisure and Applied Humanities. These programmes are offered on the campuses of the branded divisions. The IIE has a centralised academic structure through which programme development, curriculum and assessment delivery, quality assurance and regulation take place. Within the context of the AdvTech Ltd Group, The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd is made up of tertiary and schooling brands. Academic oversight of the quality of offerings of the Skills Division is also exercised although CCI is part of AdvTech Resourcing (Pty) Ltd.
The academic policies of The IIE are set by the Senate which also manages the changes to curriculum as well as the overall positioning and mission and vision of The IIE. The work of the Senate is supported by its committees. The Teaching and Learning Committee focuses on the quality of teaching and learning from classroom delivery to curriculum structure to student support. Faculty Boards exercise oversight over the programmes in each faculty and govern changes and developments in the faculty. An examinations committee monitors student performance. The research committee promotes a research culture and profile in The IIE. The Library committee drives the work of the libraries which are strategically positioned to place knowledge and information literacy central to the learning process. Programme advisory committees which include external academics and industry representatives ensure that the IIE qualifications are relevant and current. |
